Hooch Distilling Co.

Conceptual package design for Hooch Distilling Co.,inspired by my true family story of bootlegging on an island in the Platte River, Nebraska during the Prohibition era. Hooch is a distilling company that specializes in creating canned cocktails called 'Giggle Water' based on popular prohibition era drinks. To stay true to the prohibition era, the can design and packaging contain an Art Deco inspired pattern with a simple, repetitive pattern. The typography has been adjusted so that the crossbar in the letter 'E' has been dropped to stay true to the typography of the era. Each cocktail has its own monotone color palette in muted tones to give them an old fashioned feel as well as to allow consumers to quickly identify the flavor they're looking for.
Our Story: HOOCH Distilling Co. began as a family run operation in 1920, the beginning of the Prohibition era. Norbert Laska and his two sons, Leo and John, took matters into their own hands. They set up their own distillery in two large tents on an island in the middle of the Platte River in Nebraska. The Laska island distillery became the largest bootleg distillery in the state. Eventually, the Laska’s bootleg operation was discovered...but their legacy and cocktails live on.
