SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM

Conceptual wayfinding and environmental design for the Ocean Hall exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum. The overall goal was to create a more vibrant, textured, and immersive exhibit in contrast to the monotone displays of the original design. Many new aspects were added in the redesign: ocean scene LED panels on the ceiling and upper wall panels for an immersive experience, wayfinding wall colors that correspond with the water depth of the content, scenic ocean panels on lower walls depicting water depth directions, and a decorative sand wall and coral sculptures.
When leaving the exhibit, a color-changing water bottle is given as a leave-behind. As the water temperature in the bottle warms up, the coral reef image on the bottle turns white, representing the dying of the coral reefs. The water bottle demonstrates the importance of recycling and acts as a reminder to care for our and oceans.
